Abstract

A heated probe designed by Kearns (1) for use with the Bendix time-of-flight mass spectrometer provided a means of obtaining the mass spectra of the 2,4-dinitro-phenylhydrazones of carbonyl compounds. The reaction of 2,4-dinitrophenylhydrazine with carbonyl compounds and measurement of the melting point of the 2,4-dinitrophenylhydrazones is a commonly used analytical procedure.
