Abstract
A gas discharge lamp is described suitable for producing the many-lined spectrum of hydrogen (85–160 nm) and the Hopfield continuum in helium (60–100 nm). It was designed for use with a windowless monochromator to study photoionization and operates at pressures below 50 Torr. The hydrogen lamp has a mode of operation which concentrates the discharge into the monochromator entrance slit.
