Abstract

We report on a new method for measurement of mode spot sizes of fibers or waveguides (Ti-diffused or proton-exchanged waveguides on LiNbO3) that uses neither camera nor optics and works at any wavelength with a 1-μm resolution. The measurements are in good agreement with a finite element simulation.
