Precise measurement of the change in the optical length of a fiber-optic Fabry-Perot interferometer

Abstract

An accurate method for observing the change over a wide range in the optical path length of a fiber-optic Fabry-Perot interferometer is presented. The temporal movement of the interference fringes is converted to a circular motion on an oscilloscope display and is recorded with the use of a microcomputer. The variation of the optical length can be measured with an accuracy of ∼λ/400 wavelength.
