Abstract

A reflecting interference wedge used both as a tunable high resolution reflector and as a filtering output coupler in a pulsed dye laser cavity can be piezoelectrically driven to obtain continuous frequency scanning of a narrow laser line free of amplified fluorescence background. Scanning over 30 cm−1 of a 0.03-cm−1 FWHM line is obtained with an 8-nsec pulsed pumping. The proposed simple system can be conveniently used to record repetitively high resolution absorption spectra. An example with iodine vapor is presented.
