Hologram laser-beam corrector and combiner for a satellite data link

Abstract

The use of holographic optical elements in an optical data communications link between two satellites is proposed. The advantages of such an application are described in detail, and some ideas for a very lightweight tracking head based on use of such holograms is described. Some key problems to overcome in this development are discussed, and some approaches to solutions are briefly outlined.
