Abstract

Two reconfigurable add/drop multiplexers that can be switched without degrading the transmission of other channels are reviewed. They are based on UV- induced Bragg gratings and thermo-optic switches in a planar waveguide Mach-Zehnder interferometer. A single-channel and two-channel device are demonstrated. System measurements at 2.5 Gb/s and 10 Gb/s show that hitless switching can be achieved. Reconfiguration times are <500 µs.
