Ultrafast Broadband Dichroism by Transient Optical Symmetry Breaking in Plasmonic Metasurfaces

Abstract

We theoretically predict and experimentally demonstrate by polarization-resolved ultrafast transient absorption that the inhomogeneous space-time distribution of photogenerated hot carriers induces a sub-picosecond symmetry breaking in a plasmonic metasurface made of highly symmetric metaatoms.
