Ultrafast Photoisomerization in Anabaena Sensory Rhodopsin: High Speed but Small Quantum Yield

Abstract

Femtosecond broadband pump-probe spectroscopy disentangles the ultrafast photo-isomerization kinetics of all-trans and 13-cis retinal in ASR. At odds with the conventional picture, the faster reaction displays a smaller photo-product quantum yield.
