Tracing strong-field ionization of nanoparticles in the time domain

Abstract

Strong-field ionization of nanoparticles is measured in the time domain. We observe that the ion charge increases exponentially for near-infrared, visible and ultraviolet laser pulses, indicating that avalanching is the dominant ionization process.
