The Hydrated Excess Proton - Ultrafast Vibrational Dynamics of the Zundel Cation H5O2+

Abstract

Femtosecond infrared spectroscopy allows for separating the absorption continuum of hydrated protons in solution from OH stretching and bending excitations of H5O2+. The extremely broad lineshape of the proton transfer vibration originates from solvent fluctuations.
