NIR ionization avalanching in clusters ignited by ultrashort XUV pulses

Abstract

We present a novel method to spatially and temporally control avalanching in clusters. An XUV pulse generates seed electrons, which are efficiently heated by an NIR laser pulse, leading to extensive ionization at moderate intensities.
