Excitation and coherent control of antiferromagnetic spin waves with sub-20-fs optical pulses

Abstract

We study the ultrafast spin dynamics in an antiferromagnet with sub-20-fs temporal resolution. Our experiments demonstrate the coherent manipulation of such spin excitations laying the foundations for a magnon-based nanotechnology operating in the 20 THz regime.
