Heisenberg vs. Stoner: Magnon Generation and Exchange Reduction during Ultrafast Demagnetization

Abstract

Using tabletop high harmonics to probe laser-driven demagnetization dynamics, we uncover the role of ultrafast magnon excitations, enhanced electron temperature and transient reduction of the exchange splitting.
