Direct Observation of Electron Dynamics at Surfaces using X-ray Spectroscopy

Abstract

With an X-ray spectroscopic technique based on the use of the lifetime of a core excited state as an “internal clock” we investigate electron transfer between adsorbed atoms and metallic substrates on (sub)-femtosecond time scales.
