Terahertz Emission from Nano-structured Metal Surfaces

Abstract

Emission of ultrafast terahertz radiation from roughened and nano-patterned surfaces is reported for the first time. It is thought to be caused by a novel process involving multiphoton ionisation and acceleration in the surface-plasmon field.
