Direct observation of the ‘lubricant of life’ using ultrafast spectroscopies

Abstract

For the first time we have observed the changes occurring in the terahertz Raman spectrum of a peptide in a secondary-structure transition. Comparison with a phenol model system suggests an origin in hydrogen bonding.
