Abstract

We present results demonstrating the creation, control and measurement of multimode vibrational wave packets in the electronic ground state of small polyatomic molecules¹. The wave packets are created using non-resonant impulsive Raman scattering, which allows for excitation of a large class of molecules. The excitation of ground state wave packets yields information of relevance to chemical reactions, which occur largely in the electronic ground state.
