Abstract
We present results demonstrating the creation, control and measurement of multimode vibrational wave packets in the electronic ground state of small polyatomic molecules1. The wave packets are created using non-resonant impulsive Raman scattering, which allows for excitation of a large class of molecules. The excitation of ground state wave packets yields information of relevance to chemical reactions, which occur largely in the electronic ground state.
