A tapered single mode fiber (SMF) along with a polarization maintaining photonic crystal fiber (PM-PCF) amplifier, has been demonstrated for refractive index sensing. The tapered SMF fiber generates weak evanescent waves in the liquids of different refractive indices which are further amplified by PM-PCF fiber. The sensor shows the wavelength sensitivity of the order of 4.08 nm/RIU and intensity variation of 7.49dBm/RIU respectively.
