An optical microfiber acoustic sensor

Abstract

An acoustic sensor is demonstrated from a microfiber coiled around an air-backed-mandrel. As acoustic waves induce pressure variations, the mandrel diameter varies and the resulting changes in optical path are detected as phase modulations in an interferometer.
