Cavity Optomechanical Magnetometer

Abstract

We demonstrate a cavity optomechanical magnetometer where the magnetic-field induced expansion of a magnetostrictive material is transduced onto a highly-compliant optical microresonator. The resulting motion is read out optically with nanoTesla per root Hertz sensitivity.
