Abstract
We report a novel method of fabricating photonic silica microwires using room temperature self-assembly of silica nanoparticles. Rectangular slab microwires up to 7 cm in length and 5-90 μm in width have been made. Self-assembly allows the added advantage of functionality as the microwires can be doped with various organic and inorganic molecules given the cold self-assembly temperature.
