Abstract

Fiber Bragg grating inscription in microstructured optical fibers with hole structures opens new potential for sensing applications. While writing gratings in microstructured fibers, one has to take into account, that the intensity and contrast ratio of the interference pattern is strongly reduced in the light-guiding core region. Inscription experiments with nanosecond and femtosecond ultraviolet exposure reveal the feasilbility of gratings.
