Abstract

This paper a novel, Fractionally Spaced Clustering Based Equalization method is proposed for the electronic equalization of optical communication links. Channel estimation in optical channels is not a straightforward task since the optical channel is nonlinear and noise is non-Gaussian. The proposed equalizer treats equalization as a classification task and avoids optical channel estimation procedure. The proposed approach outperforms the recursive Volterra DFE methods as it is demonstrated by computer simulation.
