Abstract

In this tutorial, we review the main types and main linear properties of microstructured optical fibers (MOFs) also called photonic crystal fibers (PCFs). We explain both solid core and hollow core MOF guidance mechanisms. We also describe finite size effects that can not be neglected for many applications.
