Abstract
As silicon CMOS technology parameters are scaled down and standards for logic voltage levels are reduced, present optical transmitter technologies including the multiple-quantum-well (MQW) modulators and the vertical cavity surface emitting lasers (VCSELs) will become incompatible with silicon interconnects because of their high drive voltage requirements.
