Abstract

Progress in our laboratory on ultrashort-pulse fiber lasers, memories and switches is reviewed. We discuss the polarization-additive-pulse-modelocking principle and operating characteristics of soliton lasers, the generation of femtosecond pulse durations and higher pulse energies with stretched-pulse lasers, harmonic modelocking for high repetition-rate pulse generation and optical buffering, and optical switching results obtained with a dispersion-imbalanced nonlinear loop mirror.
