Spin-Asymmetric Absorption of Optical Vortices by Atoms

Abstract

We discuss spin dependence of twisted-light absorption by atomic targets. We demonstrate that both the absorption rates and normalized cross sections show dependence on the photon spin direction, the latter results in the prediction of strong circular dichroism for high-multipole transitions.
