Global estimation of phase using double homodyne detection and single photons

Abstract

A double homodyne measurement implements phase estimation for arbitrary phase values, without prior information, optimising precision for path-symmetric probe states with defined photon number. We demonstrated the method’s precision and accuracy experimentally, using single-photon probes.
