Photonic Band-gap Evolution from Polycrystalline to Amorphous Photonic Structures

Abstract

We map out a transition from polycrystalline to amorphous photonic structures with decreasing short-range order. The photonic band gap decreases once the individual domains of ordered structure become too small for the gap formation.
