Ultra-high Q Crystalline Microresonators for Cavity Optomechanics

Abstract

We report on optomechanical coupling in crystalline whispering-gallery-mode resonators possessing ultra-high optical (> 1010) and mechanical (> 105) Q-factors. Microdiscs reveal high frequency mechanical radial modes (> 20 MHz) and unprecedented sideband factors (> 100).
