Slow and fast light in liquid crystal light valves

Abstract

We show that fast and slow light occurs in a liquid crystal light valve when two-wave mixing occurs in the Raman-Nath diffraction regime. Light pulses are slowed at group velocities as low as 0.2 mm/s.
