Symmetry-breaking bifurcation in a vertical grating-waveguide coupler

Abstract

We propose a new scheme to observe the symmetry breaking dynamics of two counterpropagating beams in a Kerr-type nonlinear waveguide. Using a grating to couple light vertically allows for a single-beam geometry.
