Increasing the guiding bandwidth of photonic crystal waveguides by perturbing the periodicity

Abstract

Flattening of the guided modes of photonic crystal waveguides limits the guiding bandwidth. This behavior is caused by the periodicity of the structures and can be modified by perturbing it. We present a new waveguide design which allows guiding over the entire photonic band gap.
