Abstract

Spatial solitons are beams which propagate under certain conditions in nonlinear media without spatial spreading due to diffraction. They are essentially the true eigenmodes of radiation in nonlinear media. Although their temporal analogs in fibers are much better known, spatial solitons encompass a much more diverse field of self-trapped nonlinear waves.
