Abstract

Emission of terahertz (THz) electro-magnetic oscillations of optically excited coherent phonons is a classical example for radiative process of microscopic Hertzian dipoles. In fact ultrafast excitation of the atomic dipoles in polar semiconductors is feasible using short laser pulses. Recently this coherent phonon radiation of THz emission is observed in infraredactive semiconductors.1,2
