Abstract

In noncentrosym metric crystals cascaded second-order effects are responsible for important contributions in experiments where third-order nonlinear optical effects are measured. Here we report what to our knowledge are the first comprehensive degenerate four- wave-mixing experiments where both the contributions from direct third-order nonlinear- optical effects and the contributions from cascaded second-order effects are determined.
