Abstract

A frequency-shifted feedback laser (FSF laser) emits a frequency-chirped output incorporating with an intracavity frequency shifter,1 A method to impose an intracavity frequency-shift was conventionally feeding back the first order diffracted light of an acousto-optic modulator (AOM) that is inserted to a laser cavity (AOM-type FSF laser).2.3, Here we propose and demonstrate a new scheme of the FSF laser using a translated grating coupler as a frequency-shifter (transi a ted-grating-type FSF laser). We will also show that the FSF laser can be used for minimally invasive material diagnostics in which a frequency chirped laset Output plays an important, role.
