Lasing without inversion in three-level systems: Self-pulsing in cascade schemes

Abstract

We consider the different closed three-level schemes that allow lasing without inversion (LWI), including a resonant continuous wave (cw) coherent field driving one transition and an incoherent pump process on the transition where the lasing field will be generated. The additional parameters are the decay rates of the two excited levels, the cavity losses and the unsaturated gain of the lasing transition.
