Phase-dependent resonance fluorescence spectra for two-level atoms

Abstract

We measure precisely complete phase-dependent resonance fluorescence spectra for coherently driven, long-lived, two-level atoms in an atomic beam. Those phase-dependent spectra are much richer than those obtained in ordinary resonance fluorescence measurements and present many interesting features that challenge physical interpretation. We show that the phase-dependent part of the spectrum arises entirely from two-photon coherence in the dressed-state picture, while the phase-independent part of the spectrum arises from populations and coherences of dressed-state pairs.
