Abstract

Thin single crystal films of PNP have been prepared by a modification of the shear method. Excellent optical quality and large area of thin single crystal films were obtained with use of this method. The thickness of the films was about 5 pm. The single crystals showed birefringence when observed under cross polarization by an optical microscope. The molecular axis of the thin film was identified by optical microscopy and polarized optical measurements.
