Long-range interactions and ultracold collisions

Abstract

One of the unique features of collisions between ultracold atoms is that the interactions generally take place at very long range. This is because the motion of the slow atoms can be influenced significantly by the relatively weak long-range interatomic potentials. We will discuss two types of long-range collisional interactions: shielding of inelastic rubidium trap loss collisions and photoassociation of ultracold potassium atoms.
