Frequency modulation two-photon spectroscopy with a modelocked laser in laser-cooled Rb

Abstract

We have previously demonstrated two-photon spectroscopy using a modelocked laser in samples of laser-cooled 85Rb and 87Rb.1 The linewidths of the spectra approached the natural linewidth of 300 kHz. The periodic nature of spectra obtained using the output from a modelocked laser enabled us to determine the hyperfine splittings of the 7S term of both 85Rb and 87Rb with increased accuracy.
