Self-locking and self-pulsing of an avalanche upconversion cavity

Abstract

The nonlinear response of optical cavities containing avalanche upconversion crystals has not been studied previously. Here we report characteristics of a cavity containing Tm3+:LiYF4 excited at an avalanche resonance. Self-pulsing and an interesting self-locking phenomenon are reported.
