Abstract

The dynamic behavior of a class-B bidirectional ring laser is determined mainly by the interaction of the counterpropagating waves with the self-induced inversion grating. Therefore, all the phenomena that affect either the amplitude or the phase of the inversion grating could appreciably influence the dynamics of the laser. The carrier spatial diffusion and the gain line structure are among these factors. To consider their role we have generalized the model of a class-B ring laser1,2 to account for both the carrier-diffusion coefficient d and the linewidth-enhancement factor (Henry's a factor3).
