Abstract

Liquid/solid and vapor/solid interfaces play critical roles in a wide range of commercially important processes such as corrosion, lubrication, and catalysis. Despite the importance of these processes there still does not exist a complete microscopic understanding of their chemistry and physics. Recently, surface sensitive probes such as sum-frequency generation (SFG) and second-harmonic generation (SHG) have been developed, which can significantly enhance our knowledge and characterization of such interfaces.
