Cavity QED in the evanscent zone of quartz microspheres

Open Access Open Access

Abstract

The extremely small volumes and high quality factors for the whispering gallery modes of quartz microspheres offer the potential for achieving strong coupling in cavity QED. Schemes for QND measurement and for binding atoms in orbit around the resonator will be discussed, as will our experimental progress.
