Abstract

Peripherally substituted phthalocyarrines are of considerable interest for nonlinear-optical1 applications. In particular, these materials have proven to be useful in optical-limiting applications2 because the excited-state absorption coefficient exceeds that of the ground state over a large portion of the visible region. Soluble phthalocyanines have been synthesized and used for nonlinear-optical studies in solution. These materials tend to stack cofacially in organized structures that influence the photodynamics and the nonlinear-optical properties.
