Abstract
Dynamics of a modulated multimode Nd:YAG laser have been studied experimentally by separating out single modes with a Fabry-Perot interferometer-spectrum analyzer and comparing their intensity fluctuations with the fluctuations of the total intensity. Our apparatus consists of a Nd:YAG crystal with dichroic coating at one end through which the medium is pumped by 808-nm radiation from a diode array. The YAG laser consists of the crystal at one end and an external mirror to form a 5-cm-long Fabry-Perot cavity. For our operating parameters the laser can be adjusted for from one to five longitudinal modes, as observed on a Fabry-Perot spectrum analyzer.
