Abstract

By using the newly developed optoelectronic terahertz beam system1,2 shown in Fig. 1(a), the propagation of femtosecond terahertz pulses through spectrally dense methyl chloride vapor was investigated. Our observations indicate that the individual rotational transitions have van Vleck-Weiss-kopf line shapes, with a strong nonmonotonic dependence for the collisionbroadening coefficient.
